Thoracic Anesthesia Course

  • Data: Quinta-feira, Dia 24 de Novembro, 14h00-19h15
  • Organização: Sociedade Portuguesa Anestesiologia
  • Público Alvo: Anesthesiologists, Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologists, Anesthesia residents, Thoracic and Cardiothoracic surgeons, Thoracic surgery residents
  • Limitado a: 24 participantes
  • Preço: 125€

An innovative immersive hands-on 5 hours course in thoracic anesthesia designed to provide participants expertise in managing lung isolation, fibroscopy, one-lung ventilation and thoracic anesthesia. The course includes training of fibroscopy and lung isolation with simulation and training in models.

Learning Goals of the CME Activity

SPA Thoracic Anesthesia Course is based on two main parts:

Theoretical part, focused on:

  1. Perioperative assessment, optimisation and care of thoracic surgery patients
  2. A round-table open discussions on challenges in ventilation management during one-lung ventilation and thoracic surgery, lung isolation technics
  3. Anaesthetics, haemodynamic and fluid therapy for patients who undergo thoracic surgery,
  4. Choices for pain management after thoracic surgery

Practical part, to gain skills in:

  1. hands-on airway management, lung isolation tools and Fibroscopy
  2. Decision-making through simulation-based learning in cases of experiencing hypoxaemia, increased airway pressures and other ventilator-related problems during thoracic surgery and anaesthesia

Introduction to the SPA Thoracic Anesthesia Course

Session 1
Preoperative Evaluation and Optimisation.

  • Assessment and Scoring

  • Optimization: nutrition, exercise, education, ERATS

Session 2
Anesthetics, Haemodynamics, Fluid Management and Pain Management

  • Intravenous or Inhalational anaesthestics: what’s the evidence and clinician’s preference?

  • Fluid management: simply restrictive or haemodynamic goal-directed

  • Colloids and bleeding in thoracic surgery.

  • Pain Management: acute and chronic pain after thoracotomy, Regional anesthesia (thoracic epidural, paravertebral block, erector spinae block and intercostal block)

Session 3
Airway Management and One Lung Ventilation

  • Lung isolation: Double Lumen tubes and Bronchial blockers

  • Bronchoscopic anatomy

  • One lung ventilation: PEEP and auto-PEEP, driving pressure and tidal volume, pressure or volume controlled ventilation, protective ventilation

Session 4
Problem Based Learning Discussion (PBLD’s)

  • Hipoxia

  • Increased airway pressures and other ventilator problems

  • The challenging and difficult airway
