An innovative immersive hands-on 5 hours course in thoracic anesthesia designed to provide participants expertise in managing lung isolation, fibroscopy, one-lung ventilation and thoracic anesthesia. The course includes training of fibroscopy and lung isolation with simulation and training in models.

Learning Goals of the CME Activity

SPA Thoracic Anesthesia Course is based on two main parts:

Theoretical part, focused on:

  1. Perioperative assessment, optimisation and care of thoracic surgery patients
  2. A round-table open discussions on challenges in ventilation management during one-lung ventilation and thoracic surgery, lung isolation technics
  3. Anaesthetics, haemodynamic and fluid therapy for patients who undergo thoracic surgery,
  4. Choices for pain management after thoracic surgery

Practical part, to gain skills in:

  1. hands-on airway management, lung isolation tools and Fibroscopy
  2. Decision-making through simulation-based learning in cases of experiencing hypoxaemia, increased airway pressures and other ventilator-related problems during thoracic surgery and anaesthesia
