Welcome Letter

Dear SMYTE Community,

We hope this message finds you well and looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

The 41st SMYTE will take place in Chaves, Portugal, from 12 to 16 September 2026, with the scientific programme starting in the evening of September 12 and concluding at lunchtime on September 16. The meeting will feature four days of stimulating talks and keynote lectures presenting new and unpublished research in the field of membrane transport and energetics. As in previous editions, the common theme will be fungi as experimental organisms, including pathogenic and non-conventional species.

The scientific programme will cover a broad range of topics related to the structure, function, and regulation of membrane transport systems, as well as cellular processes governed by transport and bioenergetics. These will include homeostatic mechanisms, responses to stress, evolutionary aspects, and drug resistance. Oral presentations will be complemented by poster sessions, fostering discussion and scientific exchange.

Participation is encouraged from researchers at all career stages. The programme will include contributions from early-career researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and students, with speakers selected based on submitted abstracts.

The meeting will be held in Chaves, a historic Roman city in north- western Portugal, with over 2,000 years of history. Chaves is located approximately 1.5 hours by car from Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal and a major international gateway. All scientific activities, accommodation, and poster sessions will take place in a central venue, allowing participants to fully enjoy the city and its surroundings.

The social programme will include an optional afternoon excursion to the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering participants the opportunity to experience one of Portugal’s most iconic landscapes, renowned for its vineyards, river scenery, and cultural heritage.

Further details regarding registration, abstract submission, and the final scientific programme will be announced shortly and made available on the meeting website.

We look forward to welcoming you to Portugal for the 41st SMYTE in September 2026.

With best regards, The 41st SMYTE Organizing Committee,
