The 2nd International Congress on Pulmonary Rehabilitation brings together all professional groups involved in pulmonary rehabilitation for three days of scientific evidence, clinical practice, and multidisciplinary sharing.
Following the success of the inaugural International Congress of Pulmonary Rehabilitation (CIRR), which was fully subscribed and brought together an outstanding multidisciplinary faculty, strong participant engagement, and the valued support of numerous scientific societies, industry sponsors, and institutional partners, we are pleased to welcome you to the 2nd International Congress of Pulmonary Rehabilitation (CIRR). The congress will take place from 21–23 April 2027 at the Eurostars Oasis Plaza Hotel, in Figueira da Foz, Portugal.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) is a cornerstone of evidence-based, non-pharmacological management for patients with chronic and acute respiratory diseases. It is one of the most cost-effective interventions in respiratory medicine and plays a central role across the spectrum of pulmonary conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung diseases, pleural diseases, thoracic oncology, neuromuscular disorders, and many others. PR encompasses individualized exercise training, patient education, and behaviour change interventions designed to improve functional capacity, symptom control, quality of life, and long-term health outcomes.
Despite its proven clinical benefits, access to Pulmonary Rehabilitation remains limited worldwide. Expanding the availability and implementation of high-quality PR programmes continues to be one of the major challenges facing healthcare systems and professionals.
The mission of CIRR is to promote excellence in Pulmonary Rehabilitation by fostering education, scientific exchange, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovation. The congress provides a unique platform where clinicians, researchers, allied health professionals, and international experts can share the latest scientific evidence, discuss best practices, develop collaborative projects, and address the barriers that continue to limit access to PR.
The CIRR 2027 will further expand its international reach through enhanced global scientific partnerships, increased participation of internationally recognised speakers, and a worldwide available digital platform designed to broaden access to the congress content (recording sessions).
Importantly, a portion of the proceeds generated by the congress will continue to support Portuguese National Health Service hospitals that currently lack Pulmonary Rehabilitation resources, contributing to the development of new PR programmes and improving access to this essential intervention for more patients.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, we extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors and partners. Your support is fundamental to the success of CIRR and to the advancement of Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Together, we are helping to strengthen scientific collaboration, improve professional education, and expand access to high-quality respiratory care.
We warmly welcome you to the 2nd International Congress of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and look forward to your valuable contribution to another inspiring and successful edition of CIRR.
