Agostinho Carvalho is a Principal Investigator at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), and the Vice-President for Research of the School of Medicine at the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. His research group focuses on understanding the contribution of host genetics, immunity, and metabolism, and their crosstalk to the development of lung diseases.
Dr Carvalho’s main areas of research are the regulatory effects of interindividual genetic variation on molecular and cellular processes of immunity and inflammation in the lung, and the identification of novel prognostic, diagnostic and therapeutic targets for the development of personalized medical interventions.
These aims are being addressed by a multidisciplinary team that combines basic scientists and clinical experts, and that resorts to advanced cellular and animal models of disease, and patients.
