Antonio Morais is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto (FMUP), where he has been actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical education, and biomedical research since 1996. He obtained his medical degree in 1993, completed a Master's degree in 2009 with a dissertation on the immunogenetic characterization of sarcoidosis, and was awarded a PhD in 2016 for his research on the phenotypic and genetic characterization of diffuse lung diseases.
His academic and scientific career has been primarily dedicated to interstitial and diffuse lung diseases, encompassing translational research, clinical investigation, and postgraduate supervision. He was a researcher at the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) from 2018 to 2024 and has been affiliated with Rise-Health since 2024. Since September 2025, he has served as Associate Professor of Medicine at FMUP, where he coordinates the undergraduate curricular units in Respiratory and Thoracic Diseases and Interstitial Lung Disorders, while supervising master's and doctoral research projects.
He has authored or co-authored more than 118 peer-reviewed scientific publications, delivered over 80 invited lectures at national and international scientific meetings, and contributed more than 320 oral presentations and scientific posters. He has also made a substantial contribution to scientific publishing, serving as Editor-in-Chief of Pulmonology from 2012 to 2019 and as a reviewer for numerous leading international journals in respiratory medicine.
