Elyse E. Lower, MD is currently Professor Emerita of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. After completing undergraduate training at Baylor University, she received her medical degree and subsequent completion of Internal Medicine residency training and a Hematology- Medical Oncology Fellowship. For over ten years, she was the Director of the U.C. Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center, a triple accredited certified center of excellence.
Her major research interests include breast cancer management and the treatment of sarcoidosis. She is part of a multi-disciplinary team looking at various clinical issues in breast cancer. Along with her longtime collaborator Dr. Robert Baughman, she has performed several iinvestigator-initiatedtrials of novel treatments for sarcoidosis, including methotrexate, thalidomide, leflunomide, infliximab, rituximab, repository corticotropin injection, pirfenidone, roflumilast, armodafinil, iloprost, bosentan, and riociguat.
She has published over 150 peer reviewed articles and reviews. She is currently co-chair of the Oral Corticosteroid Steroid Stewardship Statement for Sarcoidosis and the WASOG Clinical Trial Endpoints Task Force.
