Inês Leal is a consultant ophthalmologist, Head of the Uveitis Clinic at Hospital de Santa Maria (University of Lisbon), and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon. She holds a PhD in Ophthalmology focused on biologics in non-infectious uveitis, and completed research and clinical fellowships at the University of Bristol and the Manchester Uveitis Clinic (NHS, UK). She is a graduate of the Clinical Scholar Research Training program at Harvard Medical School (2014–2015).

Her clinical and research focus is ocular immunology, with particular interest in the intersection of uveitis, spondyloarthritis, and gut permeability. She has 61 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 18) and serves on the Editorial Boards of Ocular Immunology and Inflammation and the European Journal of Ophthalmology. She currently holds the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology.
