Prof. J.C. (Jan) Grutters is a professor of interstitial lung diseases (ILD) at the Utrecht
University and a pulmonologist at St. Antonius Hospital and the University Medical Center
Utrecht. He is the clinical head of the ILD Center of Excellence at St. Antonius Hospital,
which is a recognized expertise center for rare diseases by the Dutch Ministry of Health and a
full member of European Reference Network for Respiratory Diseases (ERN-LUNG). He is
also a member of the University Medical Center Utrecht and St. Antonius lung transplant
team. His research focuses on genetics, biomarkers and novel therapies for pulmonary
fibrosis, sarcoidosis and ultra-rare ILD. He has supervised more than 40 PhD students,
published over 300 papers in international scientific journals and books, and is regularly
invited as speaker or chairman at national and international medical and scientific congresses,
seminars and meetings. Prof. Grutters has been President-elect of the World Association for
Sarcoidosis and Other Granulomatous Disorders since 2023.
