Scientific Profile: Prof. Bonifazi ’s scientific activity is mostly dedicated to Interstitial Lung Diseases and Interventional Pulmonology. In particular, in the field of Interstitial Lung Diseases, she carried out clinical research fellowship at the Interstitial Lung Disease Unit of the Royal Brompton Hospital, the main referral centre for these conditions worldwide, and she has started, since then, many research projects in collaboration with this group. Her research is mainly focused on interstitial lung diseases secondary to autoimmune conditions, pleuroparnchymal fibroelastosis, and on pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She is author of more than 90 original articles and review articles on these topics, and she took part of expert opinion statements. She is the Head of Interstitial Lung Disease Outpatient Care at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria “Ospedali Riuniti” since 2016 (Ancona, Italy), the regional referral centre for this conditions, which has recently included in the European Reference Network. She is also the head of hospital dedicated pathway for diagnosis and management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. About funded projects on this field, she won a PRIN in 2017 focused on pharmacoepidemiology of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and she was granted by Università Politecnica delle Marche a project focused on role of mesenchymal stem cells in pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She was the Leader of the Interstitial Lung Diseases and Pulmonary Hypertension Italian Study Group for pulmonologist Italian association (AIPO –Ass Italiana Pneumologi Ospedalieri) for 4 years. With reference to Interventional Pulmonology, she works in one the most expert centre worldwide, in which innovative bioptic tools have been adopted over the last years, in particular criobiopsy, that allows to achieve lung tissue in Interstitial Lung Diseases patients for diagnostic and research purposes.
