Sara Tomassetti is currently Head of the Pulmonology Unit within the Medical Specialities Department at Rimini and Riccione Hospitals, Area Vasta Romagna, Italy. She is a former Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Florence, Italy, and former Head of the Interventional Pulmonology Unit at Careggi University Hospital, Florence.

She has extensive clinical and research experience in interstitial lung diseases and interventional pulmonology. She has contributed significantly to the implementation of minimally invasive diagnostic approaches for interstitial lung diseases through extensive clinical and research work on transbronchial lung cryobiopsy.

She is a faculty member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), Chair of the ERS Publications Committee Group, BOND National Representative for Italy of the European Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, member of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Committee of the Italian Society of Pulmonology (SIP), and former member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Thoracic Society (AIPO-ITS).

From a clinical research perspective, she has served as Principal Investigator of several sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials focused on the diagnosis and treatment of interstitial lung diseases and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She has published extensively on clinical research aspects of interstitial lung diseases and interventional pulmonology and regularly serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals.
